Similar to last season, the trades started earlier than the actual deadline day. This was probably the biggest trade deadline to date.
Here’s a recap of what teams did and the winner:
Charlotte Hornets: Josh Okogie and three second-round picks
Phoenix Suns: Nick Richards and a second-round pick
Winner: Phoenix! The Suns add a Center that in theory, should work better with their starers.
Phoenix Suns: 2025 first round pick (least favorable of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah), 2027 first round pick (least favorable of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah), 2029 first round pick (least favorable of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah)
Utah Jazz: 2031 first round pick
Winner: Even! The Jazz thinking they’re going to get a better first round pick position wise and the Suns adding draft capital for their own future picks, or future trades.
L.A. Clippers: Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills
Utah Jazz: Mo Bamba, P.J. Tucker, a second-round pick and cash considerations
Winner: Even! All players are possible buyout candidates.
Dallas Mavericks: Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first round pick (Los Angeles)
L.A. Lakers: Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris
Utah Jazz: Jalen Hood Schifino and two second-round picks
Winner: L.A.! This trade took the sports world by storm. This wasn’t mentioned on any basketball or sports sites, no rumblings, nothing! Most thought this was a joke or someone hacked into social media accounts. This move is good for the Mavericks in the short term, however trading a Superstar (realistically there’s about a dozen of them in the league), is a baffling move. Luka is only 25 and is a constant MVP candidate. The Lakers secured themselves their next star for many years. Building around Luka, as the foundation for the franchise, will be a fun project for the front office.
San Antonio Spurs: De’Aaron Fox and Jordan McLaughlin
Sacramento Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, 2025 first round pick (top-14 protected; via Charlotte), 2027 first round pick (via San Antonio), 2031 first round pick (via Minnesota) and three second-round picks
Chicago Bulls: Zach Collins. Tre Jones, Tre Hunter and a first round pick (own; via San Antonio)
Winner: San Antonio! The Spurs add one of the top young point guards in the league to team up with future super star Victor Wembanyama, plus they were able to keep most of their young assets. Sacramento did okay as well by adding another scorer to the starting line-up, plus adding future draft capital.
Dallas Mavericks: Caleb Martin
Philadelphia 76ers: Quentin Grimes and a second-round pick
Winner: Dallas! The Mavericks adding depth to the roster.
Detroit Pistons: KJ Martin and two second-round picks
Philadelphia 76ers: Cash considerations
Winner: Detroit! Adding another young player to what has been a turn around season for the Pistons.
Boston Celtics: Second-round pick
Hoston Rockets: Jaden Springer and a second-round pick
Winner: Houston! Adding depth.
Oklahoma City Thunder: Daniel Theis and a second-round pick
New Orleans Hornets: Cash considerations
Winner: Thunder! Could be adding another big man for depth purposes or could be a buyout candidate. Either way, they also add draft capital to their loaded cabinet of future draft picks.
Sacramento Kings: Jonas Valanciunas
Washington Wizards: Sidy Cissoko and two second-round picks
Winner: Sacramento! Wonderful move by the Kings! JV adds size to the roster. Will come off the bench and at times will play side by side with Sabonis to provide a twin towers look to opposing Teams. Also, in the new cap-era of the league, JV has a super friendly contract and is signed for the next couple of seasons.
Milwaukee Bucks: Kyle Kuzma, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Jericho Sims and a second-round pick
Washington Wizards: Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson and a 2028 first round pick swap
New York Knicks: Delon Wright and cash considerations
Winner: Milwaukee! The Bucks add a much-needed scorer to their starting line-up. Kuzma provides additional depth for Giannis and Dame.
Toronto Raptors: Brandon Ingram
New Orleans Pelicans: Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a 2026 first round pick (via Indiana) and a second-round pick
Winner: Toronto! Seems this move takes the Raptors out of the top three, for this year’s draft. Ingram adds depth and scoring to the starting line-up. He’s a free agent this off season, however it’s doubtful the Raptors front office makes this move without having a plan to resign him to a contract. The potential starting five includes Quickley, Barrett, Ingram, Barnes and Poeltl. Seems like the rebuilding process has started earlier than expected.
L.A. Lakers: Mark Williams
Charlotte Hornets: Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2031 first-round pick and a 2030 first round pick swap
Winner: L.A.! Great move by the Lakers by adding a starting Center to their new and updated roster! Williams provides a bit of everything for a big man; defence, scoring and rebounding. Just what GM Pelikna needed for the roster. Only downside for the Lakers, they don’t have many assets left for any future moves in the off season.
Golden State Warriors: Jimmy Butler
Miami Heat: Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, Davion Mitchell and 2025 protected first round pick
Detroit Pistons: Dennis Schroder and Lindy Waters III
Utah Jazz: KJ Martin and Josh Richardson
Toronto Raptors: PJ Tucker, a second-round pick and cash considerations
Winner: Golden State! I think this is closer than most think. While the Warriors get a highly motivated and ‘joyful’ Jimmy Butler (who also singed an extension), to join Steph, Draymond and Team, the Heat add a very good player in Wiggins, who’s having a great season and who for all accounts will work nicely with their roster. Both Teams look to make the playoffs and surprise opponents in their conferences.
Washington Wizards: Reggie Jackson and a 2026 first round pick (less favorable of Oklahoma City, Houston [5-30] and LA Clippers)
Philadelphia 76ers: Jared Butler and four second-round picks
Winner: Even!
Charlotte Hornets: Jusuf Nurkic and a 2026 first-round pick
Phoenix Suns: Cody Martin, Vasilije Micic and a second-round pick
Winner: Charlotte! The Hornets add a missing piece at Center after trading both Mark Williams and Nick Richards, in other deals. Nurkic is only under contract for the rest of this season and next. They also add future draft capital. This one is a no-brainer for the Hornets.
Atlanta Hawks: Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks and two future pick swaps
Cleveland Cavaliers: De’Andre Hunter
Winner: Cleveland! Fantastic move by the Cavaliers! They’re having a great season and adding Hunter seems to be the missing piece to the starting five. The Cavs will be dangerous in the playoffs!
Atlanta Hawks: Cash considerations
Houston Rockets: Cody Zeller and a second-round pick
Winner: Even!
Atlanta Hawks: Terance Mann and Bones Hyland
L.A. Clippers: Bogdan Bogdanovic and three second-round picks
Winner: L.A.! The Clippers add solid scoring off the bench. Bogdan will fit in nicely to a Clippers Team who have been on a good and surprising pace this season.
Memphis Grizzlies: Marvin Bagley III, Johnny Daivs and two second-round picks
Washington Wizards: Colby Jones, Marcus Smart, Alex Len and a 2025 first round pick
Sacramento Kings: Jake LaRavia
Winner: Washington! Smart is a solid defender and will be a good veteran presence to a young Wizards Team. Adding another first round pick in this year’s deep draft, will also help their roster as they’re in the rebuild process.
L.A. Clippers: MarJon Beauchamp
Milwaukee Bucks: Kevin Porter Jr.
Winner: Milwaukee! The Bucks adding depth.
Indianna Pacers: Future second-round pick (top-55 protected)
Toronto Raptors: James Wiseman and cash considerations
Winner: Toronto! The Raptors adding a young Center to back-up Poeltl. This could be one of those low risk, high reward moves by the Raptors front office.
BUY-OUT Market (Free Agents):
Some key names to keep an eye on include:
Ben Simmons – Could stay, or if he’s actually bought, out he’ll have quite a few suitors. Some of these may include the Cavaliers and the Clippers.
Seth Curry – Possible add depth to a veteran Team
Taj Gibson – The Knicks are the obvious option
Bruce Brown – The Nuggets would be the first ones to make the call
Reggie Jackson and Malcolm Brogdon – Any Teams needing point guard depth, such as the Kings
